Ron Russell, 46, of Anaconda died tragically in an avalanche near Anaconda on May 3. 2014. He was born in Gilford, New Hampshire on May 8, 1967 to Ronald and Marilynn Russell. He was raised and educated in Missoula.
In 1988, Ron entered the US Coast Guard where he served 4 years as an Electronics Technician. He graduated from Montana States University with honors in Electrical Engineering in 1992. He worked as an Electrical Engineer for ASiMI in Moses Lake, WA before transferring to Butte to be closer to his family.
Ron then switched directions and obtained a secondary teaching degree. He taught math at Powell County High School for 3 years, before returning to the silicon business as a consultant. During this time he also worked for the Office of Public Instruction on Graduation Matters. Ron felt honored this year to be able to reconnect with his real love-teaching. He put his heart and soul into teaching math at Anaconda High School.
He was active in the Anaconda Leadership Academy, Graduation Matters Executive High School Committee, Graduation Matters Anaconda High School Team, and the president of Rotary.
Ron's children were the most important thing to him, followed closely by skiing, and his passion in working with the youth of Anaconda. His compassion, caring, and leadership skills were beyond compare. "Ron made us want to be better people".
Ron is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his beloved and adored children, Nikolas and Anna Rose of Anaconda; his sister Becky Russell (Terry) and nephews Nathan and Alex; and parents Ron and Marilynn Russell, all of Missoula and his mother-in-law, Rosemary Kent of Lewistown, MT.
