Lucille Ouldhouse Obituary

On January 16, "Lu" made her journey to heaven where she joined her husband, "Chuck", daughter, Mary-Hope, son John and his wife Faye, grandson Ron, great-granddaughter Kelsey, all her siblings, parents and many friends.

Born at 506 Elm Street to parents Peter and Catherine (Brennan) VanVynck on January 24, 1926, Lu was strongly Anacondan. Having lived here all her life, she became somewhat of an historian and enjoyed sharing stories of Anaconda in its earlier years. As a youth, she would often accompany her beloved Dad as he delivered mail - twice daily back then. She and her siblings were caretakers for Mt. Carmel cemetery as kids. The greatest joy of her young life was ice skating; not only at the Common, but at times making her own backyard rink by saving melting snow to make ice. She kept this love all through her life and passed it on to her children and grandchildren.

She graduated from Anaconda High School in 1942 and went on to do some studies toward nursing. During those years, she met Charles Ouldhouse, a friend of her brother, John. After the War, they married, a union of 73 years. Together, they made their home living most of those years in Washoe Park.

Lu worked as a janitress for various churches and business and eventually took a job with the school district, ending up at AHS. She enjoyed these years, making friends with many of the faculty, but enjoyed being with the students most of all. She had a special fondness for her "Closet Gang" from the Class of 1979.

Lucille was known to many through her associations with several organizations: The American Legion Auxiliary, The Ladies Carpenter Auxiliary, AHS Band Parents, Anaconda Thrift Center, Food Bank and her many ways of serving the Anaconda Catholic Community. Working for several of the Priests through the years was something she considered extra-special. Proud of her Irish roots, Lu was a long-time member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, holding office for many years.

Mom was deeply proud of all her children. She instilled in them her strong call to faith and a fierce work-ethic. Spending time with her children's friends was also very important to her. She always enjoyed playing a game of cards with her family members and anyone else who would join in. When it came to a sense of humor, no one could match her whit. Often the "Irish Imp" would show up - especially during family get-togethers where she would encourage all to participate in the annual Ouldhouse Fashion Show at the cabin at Georgetown Lake, or trying on outlandish hats. Being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her and she would light up whenever any of them were around. She had a special bond with each one, which wasn't easy considering there were so many and spread so far across the country.

Lucille is survived by her children: Lucille (James) Laird, Margaret (Kim) Drager, Marion (Gene) Koll, Garrett Ouldhouse, James (Jan) Ouldhouse, Ann Geiger, Michael (Arlindo) Ouldhouse; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Liberty Place, Inc. (PO Box 446 Whitehall, MT 59759) or Anaconda Pintlar Hospice (801 E. 7th Street Anaconda, MT 59711).

There will be the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Service at 9:45 a.m. prior to the Mass.
