Gilbert A. Forwood passed away January 29, 2016 at the age of 102. He was in the company of his friend and nephew Joe Mihelic and his other niece and nephew Timmy Forwood and Ed Schmidt.
Gil was born to Bernard and Ellen Forwood in Canada and moved to Anaconda as a child where his father, who had served in WWI for the Canadian Army, landed a job at the Washoe Smelter. He had two brothers and one sister, Eric Forwood, Denny Forwood and Bernice Robinson, whom all preceded him in death.
Gil worked for Elmer Beninger milking cows. When WWII broke out, Gil joined the Army. He served in the infantry in the Pacific Theatre where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with a Bronze Star. He also was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart.
After he was honorably discharged, Gil came home and went to work for the Anaconda Co. where he worked until he was 76 years old.
He married Mary Mihelic and they shared more than 50 years together. She died in 1998. They had no children.
Gil is survived by his nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Visitation will start at 9:00a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Nursing Home of Anaconda.
