Edith "Lorraine" Jones Doran died peacefully on July 17, 2013, at St. James Healthcare.
She was born to Edith Johnson Jones and Samuel Evans Jones in Anaconda on May 7, 1922. Lorraine attended schools in Anaconda and graduated from Anaconda High School in 1939. She then attended Montana State University in Bozeman, graduating with a degree in Home Economics and Minors in Chemistry and English.
After returning to Anaconda she worked as a chemist on Smelter Hill until she married John (Jack) Doran on June 10, 1948.
She worked as a substitute teacher until she was given a permanent position teaching Home Economics at the Junior High School in 1967, retiring in 1987. She was a dedicated teacher who never turned away a student or fellow teacher seeking help.
Lorraine was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church where she faithfully served for 69 years. She was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, choir director, organist, Elder, treasurer of the Memorial Fund, treasurer and president of the Presbyterian Woman.
Other organizations in which she was active include Kappa Delta Sorority, P.E.O, Soroptimists, Delta Kappa Gamma, Heart Fund, Anaconda Retired Teachers, Tuesday Bridge and was on the board at the Thrift Center.
Lorraine was an accomplished seamstress, making many outfits for her children and grandchildren. She also crocheted and knitted many afghans and baby blankets for her family. She also loved to bake and cook for her family and friends and shared her recipes with anyone. Holiday and family meals were always festive and delicious occasions and she was a second mother to the neighborhood children who fondly remember her birthday parties and treats.
Survivors include husband Jack; son Gary Doran and wife Susan; daughter Debbie Doran; grandchildren Denise and husband Mark Eisenman, Kevin and wife Alyse Doran, Nick and wife Kara Vahe and Kristina Vahe; Great-grandchildren Ryan Eisenman and Tyra Kucinski; brother-in-law Richard Doran and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Edith Jones, sister and brother-in-law Emerene and Clarence Weis and nephew Jim Weis.
Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, Anaconda. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, it is requested memorials be made to the Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in Anaconda, MT.
