Dorothy ‘Dot' Walund entered Heaven's Gates surrounded by her loving family on May 28, 2018.
Dorothy always had a smile for everyone she met. She loved working at the information desk at the hospital in Anaconda where she never met a stranger.
Dorothy was born in Bannack, Montana to George and Margaret Burnett on November 28, 1930. She was always proud of her Bannack roots. During a visit several years ago, Dorothy mentioned to visitors that she was born in Bannack and word got out among tourists. She was a celebrity for the day and couldn't be happier sharing her stories with people.
Early in her life, the family moved to Sheridan, Montana, where she graduated from high school and then worked for the telephone office as an operator. While working in Sheridan, she met the handsome owner of the Club Café next door, Lloyd Walund. Lloyd and Dorothy married February 25, 1951. Lloyd considered her ‘The prettiest girl in Sheridan.' In 1951 Lloyd and Dorothy moved to Anaconda, Montana and raised seven children.
Mom was well known in Anaconda as ‘The Cake Lady' making almost everyone in town a cake or two. To this day someone says, "Your mom made our wedding cake." The Grandkids loved going to Gramma's to get a frosting flower on their fingertips to eat. The aroma in the kitchen, while she was baking her cakes, remains with us.
Dorothy worked as a cook at Anaconda High School, the Haufbrau, operated her own cake business, and more recently was an information desk greeter at the hospital.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, Siblings: Roy Oler, Dale Burnett, Clint Burnett, and sister Phyllis Yocum.
Survivors include Sons: Jim (Val) Walund); Ken (Sandra) Walund; Daughters; Gail (Brian) Moloney, Vicki (Tony) Laughlin, Connie (Ray) Ryan, Patti (Steve) Blaskovich, and Lori Walund.
Grandchildren: Amanda, Holly, and Rory Walund, Jason Bailey, Dan (Keira) Laughlin, Pat (Trish) Laughlin, Sean, Casey, and Conor Ryan, Michael, Colin (Courtney) and Kiley Blaskovich, Kjersti (Fiancé Derrick Downing) and Brett Walund, and Noah Walund.
Great Grandchildren: Harper Blaskovich, Declan Laughlin.
Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Darwin (Barb) Burnett, Keith (Marlene) Burnett, sister-in-law Pat Burnett, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren immensely and was proud of each and every one of them.
Visitation will be held at Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Home on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church.
A luncheon will follow the funeral service with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Anaconda Pintler Hospice, 118 E. 7th St., Ste. 1A, Anaconda, MT 59711 or the donor's choice.
