Daniel Durkin Obituary

The lights in Anaconda dimmed October 3, 2019, when one of the brightest lights was turned off and our brother Daniel P. Durkin left this earth.

Dan was born on Feb 18, 1957 to Jack and Christine Durkin. He was the youngest child and he was always quick to tell people that we were his "OLDER" sibling. Dan lived his entire life in Anaconda, except for a short time during Basic Training for the National Guard. He attended St Paul's grade school, Washington Elementary and graduated from Anaconda High School. In his younger years, Dan was a hunting and fishing fanatic. He spent countless hours in the woods and waters around Anaconda with his family or friends. He was also an avid fan of the University of Montana Grizzlies, never missing a game on TV and the Miami Dolphins. Danny was also a proud supporter of all Copperhead Athletics.

When Dan was 34, he was in a life altering car accident. Defying all odds, Dan survived and moved forward with his life without a complaint or feeling sorry for himself. He was always extremely happy to see someone he knew and was more than happy to engage in conversation. Stories about his mom, niece or family pets were usually the topics. Always a JOKESTER with that sly smile on his face.

Dan was involved in many clubs and organizations over the years. One of his proudest moments was when he was awarded EAGLE OF THE YEAR by the Eagles Organization. Dan also enjoyed playing shuffleboard for many years, countless games of Rummy and Solitaire. In his younger days, Dan, enjoyed dancing and many women would tell you he was the best Jitterbug Partner in town. He always loved to be on the go, especially his trips to Jackpot, rides around Georgetown and his Thursday night bowling league.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Richard D Young. He is survived by his brothers Terry and John (Sally) Durkin of Anaconda his sister Jennelle of Butte, his beloved niece Shelby of Moscow, Idaho, his aunt Marjorie Durkin of Butte and numerous cousins and friends.

Dan certainly taught us a lot about living against all odds. He taught us to accept all people for who they are, and that laughter goes a long way.

"THERE ARE ONLY TWO WAYS TO LIVE YOUR LIFE...ONE IS AS THOUGH NOTHING IS A MIRACLE. THE OTHER IS AS THOUGH EVERYTHING IS A MIRACLE." GODSPEED SPORT. YOU ARE DEEPLY LOVED!
