Bernadine Selensky Obituary

The angels took Bernadine "Bernie" Selensky home to heaven on October 19, 2019, after a long illness. She passed away peacefully at Granite County Medical Center, where she resided for the past six years.

Bernie was born September 6, 1937 in Esmond, ND to Mike and Cecilia Lauinger. She was the twin to her sister Vangie. She spoke fluent German and was one of four girls. Bernie talked fondly of North Dakota and was very proud of her upbringing there.

She graduated from Esmond High School and met Raymond Selensky of Selz, ND and married in Esmond in 1955. They moved to Anaconda, MT in 1955 where Ray worked on the smelter and Bernie worked at the Marcus Daly Hotel and then St. Ann's Hospital. They raised three daughters which she was proud of, Cindy, Sandy and Sherry. Bernie then went on to work for the Anaconda School District as a janitress for 23 years. She was also a shop steward for her union. As position she was proud of and good at.

Throughout her life, Bernie was very talented and did various crafts, quilting, sewing and painting. She also enjoyed cribbage and pinochle and she usually won! Bernie and Ray loved taking care of their grandchildren. Teaching them how to garden, taking trips, baseball games and many activities that were near and dear to their hearts.

In 2013, due to health problems, Bernie went to live at Granite County Medical Center in Philipsburg. She made many new friends there. She really considered them and many of the staff her second family. Bernie enjoyed many outings, activities and especially the Hot Bingo Games! There was no stopping Bernie if she was on her way to a bingo game! Bernie seemed to be the "go to person for wisdom and advise." Which, of course, she was always happy to give!

Bernie was a loving mom, gramma, great gramma, aunt and good friend to many. Everyone loved her sense of humor, those big blue eyes and that great big smile that she always had!

Bernie was preceded in death by her husband, of 43 years, Ray, grandson Raymond Michael, parents Mike and Cecelia Lauinger, her sister Barbara Zacher, Irene Rieger, Vangie Reiger and Katherine Lauinger (at birth).

Her surviving family include daughters Cindy Selensky, Sandy Selensky and Sherry (Chuck) Sturm, grandchildren Faith (Ryan Rivers) Pickering, Dillon Pickering, Nicole Ivankovich and Suzane (Eric) Bowie, great grandchildren Hayden and Colton Reilly and Kiyan and Harper Bowie, numerous nieces and nephews in North Dakota, Washington and Minnesota and her special friends at the Granite County Medical Center. Bernie (Mom) will be missed by all who knew and loved her!

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to Anaconda Pintler Pets, P.O. Box 1204, Anaconda, MT 59711, as Bernie always had cats and dearly loved her "Furry Babies"!

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church.
