Marijo Jacobs Obituary

Family and friends are mourning the death of Marijo Peck Jacobs who died at her home in Anaconda on July 29. Though her 66 years took her down many paths, her greatest joys through many of those years were her two accomplished children, Angie, Whitefish's City Attorney, and Nate, a construction engineer in Las Vegas. In her last years her greatest delight came from her grandson, Dane Floch.

Always a Montana woman in heart and soul, Marijo was part of Lake McDonald's Powell clan and the Pecks of Columbia Falls. Both were large families, and she was surrounded throughout her life by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She embraced her small-town roots in Choteau where she was raised with five sisters and brothers. Though she lived in some of Montana's larger cities, she was most contented in the rural surroundings of her childhood and then Frenchtown, where she raised her own family, and in Deer Lodge and Anaconda, where she resided her last decade.

Her life's work was often spent in healing practices and in service to others. She worked as a surgical RN in Missoula following graduation from Montana State University. After marrying Dan Jacobs, her high-school sweetheart, she devoted herself to their family and home, but often took jobs for extras-such as fencing their field and buying a horse for her children. Perhaps there will never be a more generous heart, a better gardener, a more avid reader or a tidier housekeeper in all of the Clark Fork Valley. While living there she became an assistant to renowned folk artist Hanneke Ippisch and helped design many themed wooden nativities. She also worked in the school cafeteria where she refined her cooking skills so she could treat loved ones for years to her Tunnel of Fudge Cake or her pumpkin cheesecake. Later in Missoula, she worked as a hospice nurse, a pre-school aide and a nursing home assistant. Her last job before her retirement was with the State Hospital in Warm Springs, where she worked as a peer counselor.

Her ashes will be returned to hallowed ground in Glacier Park and a private ceremony will be held with her loving family who will pause to reflect on the Native American wisdom, the Buddhist teachings and the Christian love that radiated through her.
