Ken Heintz Obituary

A true gentleman and a gentle man, Ken "Kenny" Heintz passed away on December 9, 2016 in Meridian, ID following a fight with Alzheimer's.

The youngest of seven children, Kenny was born on March 1, 1931 in Neillsville Wisconsin to Chris and Pauline Heintz. The family moved to Hamilton Montana when Kenny was in grade school and he graduated from Hamilton High School in 1949. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy as a radar man on the USS Marsh during the Korean War and following his honorable discharge, he moved to Anaconda, Montana where he worked as an Instrumentation Control Technician at the Butte Concentrator for 32 years and MSE-TA, Inc. until he retired in 1993. After retirement, he used to say he didn't know how he found time to work!

Kenny married Mary Alice Donohue "Meem" on January 12, 1955 and they were married 56 years when she passed away in 2011. He missed her immensely and it is comforting to know they are finally together again.

Kenny loved everything outdoors and enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and camping (where he was famous for his campfire potatoes). He treasured spending time with family and friends, his granddaughter Shannon, and his "kiddos" meant the world to him. Babies and children were naturally drawn toward his kind and gentle nature.

Kenny was a very humble man with never a bad word about anyone or to anyone. But those who knew him will tell you he will be best remembered for always helping others. Kenny was a member of the Anaconda Elks Club for 45 years and was awarded Elk of the Year in 1983. He was a behind-the-scenes kinda guy, and as an avid volunteer, he spent many hours actively involved with the Elks Club in Anaconda, from the Drum and Bugle Corps, kitchen duty, building maintenance, caring for the Elk's cemetery plot, filling candy bags for the children's Christmas party, to volunteering with the Hoop Shoot. Kenny was a jack of all trades and mastered them all - he could build, fix, or grow absolutely anything and was often found humming and puttering in his garage, basement or in the yard! Oh, he will be missed!

Kenny is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Eugene and Vernon, and sisters Alice Nauertz, Isabelle Gall, Erma White, and Florence Kohler.

He will be deeply missed by daughter Colleen and Jim Matosich of Middleton, ID; son John Heintz of Bozeman, MT; granddaughter Shannon and Tony Ostrander of Meridian, ID; and he was so blessed with two beautiful great granddaughters that he adored, Kenna Lynn and Avery Alice Ostrander. Survivors also include brother-in-law John and Sue Donohue of Big Lake, Alaska; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins from both sides of the family in Montana, Alaska, Wisconsin, and Washington, and many countless dear friends.

Cremation has taken place. Kenny wasn't much for a fuss, but enjoyed a good party so the family invites you to join a celebration of his life to be held on January 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. A reception will follow the mass at the Elk's Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial in Kenny's name to the Anaconda Elks Lodge #239 Scholarship Fund, 223 Main St., Anaconda MT 59711.

A very special and most heartfelt thank you goes to the staff of The Cottages in Meridian and Signature Hospice for providing Dad with such excellent care and love. Although thank you cannot adequately express our gratitude, we will carry you in our hearts forever because you were his angels.

You lived a good honest life and worked hard....... go rest your eyes, Dad.
