Dennis Burt Obituary

Dennis "Mike" Burt, 68 passed on June 8, 2017 at Community Hospital of Anaconda following a short but unwinnable war with cancer attributed to Agent Orange exposure. Mike was born on March 9, 1949 in Monterey Park, CA to Delores Cecelia and Thomas John Burt. Mike was a Veteran serving three years in the Army including a year in Viet Nam.

Mike loved and encouraged his wife Elaine and her ready-made-family for twenty years. They married in Anaconda after a long courtship on her parents' 68th anniversary. Mike said their marriage and life together in Montana was the best years of his life. Mike has a daughter Tammy whom he loved with all his heart. His face lit up when her remarkable son Dylan was mentioned. Mike and his brother Leland (Lee) were inseparable throughout life and shared a special love and bond.

Mike's primary vocation was General Contractor, often self-employed, specializing in tile roofs throughout California. He lived in the mountains of Big Bear, CA for several years and commuted to the city every day for work. He and Elaine moved to Anaconda in 2002. Upon retirement, he focused on making life better for others, especially family, fellow Veterans, and his new community of Anaconda. To know Mike was to love and respect him. He was selfless and always there when needed.

Mike loved the Lord and is surely in Heaven. He did not fear death, but stressed about the ones he left behind. His involvement included Red Bus tour guide, Little League Coach, Kidz Club leader, Deacon, American Legion, Grumpy Old Men - the list goes on and on. He sat through thousands of hours of A-DLC Commission meetings while Elaine was a Commissioner. He served on the West Valley Sewer Committee, Weed Board and Chairman of Westpark Owners' Association. He loved sharing hobbies of woodworking, football (Copperheads & USC), baseball, golf, and remote-control planes, with the grandkids. He loved attending their games and events and helping with homework and projects. He really loved just being their Papa Mike.

Mike understood the struggles Veterans face and was there to listen and help. He served as Commander of Anaconda Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13 and Montana DAV Junior Vice- Commander. He was honored to speak at Veteran events and Uniform Display ceremonies. He recently became an "Honorary Marine".

Mike loved to cook and entertain and was very competitive. His bar-b-q skills were superb. He prepared prize winning ribs and brisket, and was twice Grand Champion at the Philipsburg Bar-b-q competition. He never left without a trophy. He also loved Taco Night at his brother's house.

Mike loved his home and view of Mt. Haggin. He enjoyed watching the beautiful birds and wildlife that shared his yard. He felt very blessed and loved his life.

A few years ago, Mike and Lee were united with family from their father's home, Cornwall, England. Cousin Garrie McGinn came to visit Anaconda twice and Mike and Elaine were welcomed in Cornwall by a large, fun-loving family. They learned of Mike's Grandfather, also named Thomas John Burt, who emigrated from Cornwall to Butte during the 1890's and worked in the mines for several years. Their great-aunt, Mary Jane (Curnow) Hopper was buried in Butte in 1920. Mike loved traveling and going on cruises with family and friends. The trip to Cornwall was a highlight of his life; memories to last a lifetime.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Kenneth & Mary J Richardson, granddaughter Lily Rose Carney, special niece Nylee, and recently his Winnie Dog.

Mike is survived by his wife Elaine Lux-Burt, daughters: Tammy (Stacy) Hill, Janet (Nate) Watt, sons: Jeremy (Tammie) and Jeff (Chelle) Carney; grandchildren Dylan, Kaitlyn, Jon, Robert "Zach", Nate, Raven, Bryan, Naomi and Brenna Lynn, brother Leland Burt (Sharon Juza) and special buddy, Pooch. Mike is also survived by nieces, great-nephews, Cornish cousins and many dear friends including Mike Adams and Mary Murphy whom he considered family.

A Celebration of Life and picnic will be held at Benny Goodman Park on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 6:00 pm. Everyone is welcome! Interment will be at New Hill Cemetery, Anaconda when the time seems right. Cremation has taken place.
